While putting together this list, I have learned that I love domestic thrillers where the husband and wife murder each other, shitty childhood stories when parents fuck their kids up, and dystopian worlds where what’s the worst of the worst in humanity is revealed.

I also learned that real life can be so much more disturbing than fiction by going through 2022 and hope I can always find some solace or vengeance from books.

I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

A Memoir by child actor Jannette McCurdy on her dysfunctional childhood dictated by her mother that led to severe eating disorders and addiction. I was skeptical about the title because I thought death jokes are cheap and McCurdy will probably just trash on her mom. But I was so wrong. This is a story about a little girl trying her very best to be good enough for her mommy and to survive in a very cruel entertainment world.

The stories remind me a lot about Educated, but a Hollywood version. I also admire McCurdy for how…
